It’s time to #HelpKidsLiveBetter at Walmart and Sam’s Club

Local Walmart and Sam’s Club stores are once again joining forces to “Change Kids’ Health, Change the Future” by raising money for Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart during the annual #HelpKidsLiveBetter campaign.

Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers, and members have raised 5.7 million for Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart since 1988. To date, total fundraising from Walmart and Sam’s Club for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is more than $1 billion.

Story of CMN Champion, Carter:

After a normal pregnancy, its came as a shock when Carter was born with a heart defect. Carter was immediately transferred to the NICU at the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, where he would spend the first two weeks of his life. Carter was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a combination of congenital abnormalities that would require repeated open-heart surgeries-the first of which he had at only 28 days old. In addition to his heart defect, Carter was facing more issues including low platelet count, a low immune system, weak muscle tone, eye problems, a helmet and developmental delays. After many tests, Carter received a full diagnosis – Takenouchi-Kosaki Syndrome, a condition so rare only 16 people in the world have it. Today, Carter can walk and talk-things most people with this syndrome cannot do. Carter is so much more than a syndrome, and he’s already beating it!

Money is raised primarily through a register campaign where customers and members contribute $1 or more when they checkout. Associates also fundraise in other ways including bake sales, in-store contests, and events.

The 2019 campaign raised more than $271,000 for Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart.

This year’s register campaign runs June 22 through July 19. Customers and members can conveniently donate $1 or more when they check out at any Walmart or Sam’s Club store along the Gulf Coast.

Pediatric healthcare is underfunded. Money raised at Walmart and Sam’s Club helps close this funding gap. All funds raised at Walmart and Sam’s Club locations along the Gulf Coast directly benefit the kids treated at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart.

Walmart and Sam’s Club joined the CMN Hospitals fundraising family in 1987 with Sam Walton himself being personally involved in the beginning of the relationship between the organizations. The #HelpKidsLiveBetter campaign supports Walmart’s goal of giving back to local communities.
